Garden to Table is all about learning to use our natural resources for sustainable practices. We love growing, harvesting, preparing, cooking and eating the lovely food. We learn about different cultures through trying different foods and teach our taste buds to like a range of fruit and vegetables.
Every week, our Year 3, 4 and 5/6 classes participate in lessons that teach us how to be sustainable kiwi kids. We all have a turn at the different roles and get to share the delicious food.
We learn about the importance of working as a team and how to make the most of our fantastic gardens.
In the kitchen we learn life skills such as how to safely use knives, how to set a table and how to cook for our families. We also learn maths through measurement and literacy through reading recipes and following the instructions.
In the garden we learn how to compost our food scraps, plant seeds and seedlings and look after our gardens until we can harvest and taste the produce. We learn about the seasons and how to identify different fruits and vegetables.
We are very appreciative of all the volunteers who helped us to construct our gardens. We also have great people who share their time with us to help us maintain the gardens and prepare the food. YOU ARE THE BEST!
